New Chainguard Images December 2024: Adoptium, AWX, CouchDB

RJ Sampson, Senior Software Engineer

Happy New Year! We have a lot of new holiday gifts to show off, with 39 new Chainguard Images built in December! 🪩

You can dive into all the details about these new images, and all our images, in our Directory.

You’ll notice that there are many new FIPS-enabled images. For images with both FIPS and non-FIPS variations, we included only FIPS in the list below. However, you can view the non-FIPS versions in our Directory as well.

If you see something on this list that your team can use, reach out today. It’s never too late to give the gift of zero CVEs!

Featured Chainguard Images

As usual, there are plenty of important images in this batch, including two new images for Adoptium; AWX is an automation controller that provides a web based interface, REST API, and task engine built on top of Ansible; and Apache CouchDB is an open-source, document-oriented NoSQL database implemented in Erlang. Check out more details on these featured images:

  • Overview: Adoptium (in this case Adoptium OpenJDK, now known as Eclipse Adoptium) produces high-quality runtimes and associated technology for use within the Java ecosystem.

  • What’s New: We’ve built two new images for Adoptium: a Java JDK image, and a Java JRE image. The JDK image is designed to compile Java applications, and the JRE image is designed to run them.

  • Use Cases: Adoptium’s binaries can be used by enterprises in a variety of areas, including embedded systems, desktops, traditional servers, modern cloud platforms, and large mainframes.

  • Overview: AWX is an open source project that enables users to better control their community Ansible project use in IT environments.

  • What’s New: Chainguard's AWX image is meant to serve as a drop-in replacement for the official AWX image and comes with low-to-no CVEs out of the box.

  • Use Cases: AWX is useful for any organization looking to run Ansible Playbooks using a web interface.

  • Overview: CouchDB is an open-source NoSQL database that uses multiple formats and protocols to store, transfer, and process its data.

  • What’s New: Our CouchDB image has zero CVEs and is ready to be used in place of the official CouchDB image and is meant to be run with the CouchDB Helm chart.

  • Use Cases: CouchDB is pretty flexible, but is especially useful in mobile devices, where network connection is not guaranteed, and the application must keep on working offline. It’s great for users in industries like aviation, first responders, and other critical infrastructure.

Chainguard Images: The Easy Choice for Secure Development

Chainguard Images are the best and easiest way to build secure software, free of vulnerabilities. They are built with only the necessary components based on Wolfi, our own Linux distribution, and are supported by a top-of-the-line SLA to make sure they remain CVE-free.

Interested in hearing more about the value they provide? Check out this testimonial from Domino Data Labs, a Chainguard customer:
